Show Your Glute/Ham Tie-in NOT Your … | Figure Posing Back Pose

The back pose can decide your placement. Look classy AND show your glutes and legs! Let’s work together and polish your posing so that you place as high as possible!

One of the most crucial aspects of stage presence in competitions is mastering the back pose. However, a common mistake that’s often seen is the inadvertent bending of the knees during this pose. Let’s delve into why keeping those knees straight is crucial and how to nail your back pose flawlessly.

The Knee Dilemma:

Repeatedly, I’ve witnessed competitors inadvertently bending their knees during the back pose, and truthfully, it makes me cringe. I understand the reasons behind it—avoiding thighs sticking together, highlighting the glute-ham tie-in, and coaches advocating knee bending for engaging leg muscles. However, it’s about finding a delicate balance.

Finding the Balance:

The key is a slight bend—just enough to avoid locking your knees, not more. Over-bending sacrifices the showcase of your shoulders and lats as you lean too far from the judges. Remember, it’s a back pose, not solely a glute-ham tie-in display.

Engaging Your Legs:

Achieving full leg engagement without excessive knee bending is possible. Try this: stand with straight legs, slightly bend your knees, press your heels together, push your toes apart, and feel the engagement without any significant knee bend. This method maximizes the leg muscles’ engagement without compromising your overall pose.

Practical Practice:

Recording yourself while practicing this pose is invaluable. What feels moderate during practice might appear exaggerated on stage. Video feedback provides a clear perspective for refinement.

Final Pointers:

Maintain an upright and confident posture, subtly push your glutes back to accentuate the tie-in, showcasing your hard work without over-exposing. Remember, subtlety and grace elevate your presentation.

Conclusion:

Perfecting the back pose demands precision, and avoiding excessive knee bending is pivotal for a polished presentation. By maintaining a slight knee bend, engaging your legs, and focusing on your overall stance, you’ll showcase your physique effectively.

Why me? Why am I here?

Because I have experienced many of the same frustrations that you have! I was worried about how I would look on stage…I was tired of finding posing videos without explanation of how the heck to actually do it…I was appalled at the obvious lack of knowledge on stages everywhere!!
